Louisville coach Rick Pitino has to smile when he hears about the latest interview of incoming freshman sensation Samardo Samuels, who is on a short vacation in his native Jamaica.

The 6-foot-9 Samuels, who is considered one of the top five incoming freshmen in the country, todl The Jamaica Observer that Louisville “is where I want to be.”

And he said he plans on staying there a while.

“Well I intend to stay all four years, but if the opportunity comes up I will take it of course for my family, but whatever happens I can always get my degree,” Samuels told the newspaper. “The good thing is you can always go back to get the degree even if you leave and go to the NBA early. . . . My options are wide open.”

Samuels, who played his prep school ball at Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict’s School, told the newspaper he wants to win a national championship while at U of L.

“All the teams I go to all win and I hope I can take this to Louisville as well and go all the way to winning the NCAA championships,” he said. He also called Pitino the “the best coach in the whole United States.”
